Baguio City formally recognized as ASEAN Clean Tourist City during ceremony in Cambodia

Baguio City, Philippines – The City of Baguio known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines proved its tourism quality after it was again recognized as 2022 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Clean Tourists City Awardee.

The award was conferred to the city during the 2022 ASEAN Tourism Awarding Ceremony held at Sokha Beach Resort, Preah Sihanoukville, Cambodia on January 19, 2022.

Maria Amelita C. Aquino, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the Kingdom of Cambodia and Attaché Ms. Reichelle V. Corpuz received the award in the place of Baguio City officials.

According to Public Information Office - City of Baguio, this season covering 2022-2024 is the second successive season that the local government unit of Baguio received the award. This is after the city snatched the same award last 2020-2022 season.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) said the recognition is presented to such cities with the initiative to beautify their public areas, improve the environment and sanitation, enhance urban spaces, and promote their natural man-made attractions.

The said city passed all indicators of the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standards including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness-building about environmental protection and cleanliness, green spaces, health safety and urban safety and security, and tourism infrastructure and facilities.

The DOT praised the city for continuing to uphold the best tourism standards despite the current limitations on its operations.

Meanwhile, the city encourages all stakeholders to keep the city clean.
