164 children in Baguio City tested positive with Covid-19 in August

Baguio, Philippines – Around 164 children ages 1-17 in Baguio City have tested positive with Covid-19 from August 1 – 20, 2021.

As of 5:00 pm on August 27, 2021, the city recorded 103 new Covid-19 cases. These cases bring the total active Covid-19 cases in Baguio to 702.

City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, through Public Information Office – City of Baguio, stated that the increase of Covid-19 cases to the said age bracket should be taken seriously considering that the youth are vulnerable to the virus since they are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine.

Magalong, who extended the stricter home restrictions to 17 years old and below until September 5, reiterated an appeal to parents and households to prioritize the protection of the younger members of the family the way they do to elderly, ailing, and other members who are more vulnerable to Covid-19.

He further encouraged safety measures inside the house, such as disinfection, physical distancing, and quarantine, especially those with Covid-19 symptoms. He added that the adults should likewise avail vaccination, for this will not only protect themselves but also their children and other people who are yet to receive their Covid-19 jab.
