Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Baguio City, Philippines - A 29-year-old policeman was pronounced dead on arrival at a health facility in Baguio after he allegedly shot himself by accident at their house in Maria Basa, Pacdal, Baguio City.

Initial investigation revealed they were already preparing to sleep along with his wife and son around 10 p.m. of Tuesday, Oct. 24, when the incident transpired.

His wife disclosed that she suddenly heard a gunshot, and upon checking, she saw her husband lying on the floor with his head oozing with blood.

She then sought help from neighbors, and they ferried her husband to the Saint Luis University Sacred Heart Medical Center, but he was declared dead upon arrival by his attending physician.

Baguio City police, in a statement, said investigators had already ruled out foul play in the incident.

The victim was identified by the office as Patrolman Davidson Sib-aten, married and a resident of Pacdal, Baguio City.

At present, the police office is now aiding the victim’s family with their financial claims, while his colleagues are now contributing to the financial aid they would be giving, to at least ease the financial burden of the victim’s family.

“We must always remember that these officers are also humans and share the same trials and triumphs. This incredibly difficult loss reminds us that we need to uplift one another, even in the most difficult times,” Baguio City police reminds in a press statement.
