3 teens in Ifugao hit by falling rocks while having a late morning swim

Banaue, Ifugao – It was supposed to be a fun late morning swim on June 8 at the Guihob river in Barangay Kinakin, Banaue Ifugao for three teenagers as the frolicked and dived in to cool down when the accident happened at noon.

Banaue Acting Police Chief, Police Major Michael Dangilan said that a concerned citizen happened to see the three teenagers were having fun when they were hit by falling rocks and mud from the hillside.

The witness immediately called the police station around 12:20 noon.

Dangilan said they promptly drove the 10 kilometers distance from the area and saw these three wounded teenagers.

They carried them to the vehicle and rushed them to the Good News Clinic and Hospital which is around 11 kilometers away from the scene.

Of the three, two only sustained abrasions and are now in stable conditions. The other had to be referred to the Veteran’s General Hospital in Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya. Dangilan said the kid has laceration on the head.

“Usually kasi ‘yung sa barrio namamasyal ang mga yan, kung ano ano naman ang ginagawa doon – kukuha ng panggatong o kung mag-fishing. Naisipan [nilang] mag-swim, pero ayun na ang nangyari sa kanila,” he said.

The afternoon rains in Banaue bring rock and mud slides at the hillsides and residents are advised to be vigilant.
