Apayao PLGU implements 4-day workweek

Apayao, Philippines – Employees of the Apayao Provincial Local Government Unit will be reporting to work four days in a week starting today, June 5, 2023.

While some local government units in the Philippines had already implemented the 4-day work scheme last year, Apayao is the first LGU in the Cordillera to adopt said work arrangement.

The 4-day work schedule will be cutting the workweek, but it will be lengthening the daily hours of employees as they will be working at 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays.

No noon break policy shall also be observed particularly by frontline personnel.

Frontline service workers such as guards, hospital personnel, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office are not covered by this arrangement as they are require to report daily.

Governor Elias Bulut Jr. cited in Memorandum Order No. 103 that the 4-day workweek in Apayao aims at conserving resources and maximizing the regular working hours.

Bulut, through the Apayao Provincial Information Office, likewise emphasized the importance of the employees’ well-being, stating that the new work arrangement will provide them a healthier and happier work environment.

“The well-being of employees is of utmost importance. With this new policy, we can create a healthier and happier work environment that can lead to a more motivated and productive employees of the provincial government,” he was quoted saying.

This 4-day in a week work schedule will be subjected to a comprehensive review and assessment to evaluate its effectiveness and to create necessary adjustments.
