Balbalan is first town to implement monthly cash subsidy for single parents in Kalinga

Balbalan, Kalinga – The leaders in Balbalan town continue to ensure that no one is left behind.

 

With the enactment of Republic Act 11861, also known as the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, the local government unit of Balbalan, headed by Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Rowina Alison Damian, has allocated enough funds for the provision of additional benefits for single parents.

 

Under the new law, solo parents or those legal guardians, adoptive or foster parents, who solely provide parental care and support to a child at least 22 years old and below, living with and dependent on them, are entitled to P1,000 monthly cash subsidy.

 

In Kalinga province, Balbalan is the first town to implement the cash subsidy.

 

Such municipal government’s demonstration of commitment to promoting the welfare of its constituents was recognized by the provincial local government unit of Kalinga. Hence, the awarding of certificate of appreciation to the municipality through Municipal Social Welfare Development Office (MSWDO) Myrna Canapi during the launch of Solo Parents Week at Davidson Hotel on April 25, 2024.

 

Canapi initiated the move. The local council then passed an ordinance mandating the local government to allot funds for solo parents’ monthly allowance.

 

The citation was later handed over to Mayor Malannag and Vice Mayor Damian during their regular flag raising ceremony.

 

In a statement, Malannag recognized the sacrifices and courage of the single parents for raising their children independently. He assured them that he is doing his part to alleviate the plight.
