Businesses in Tuguegarao voluntarily closed to help arrest rising COVID 19 cases

Updated: Aug 27, 2021

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan - Many businesses in Tuguegarao City voluntarily closed their shops or establishments as a response to the appeal of Philippine Councilors League President Maila Ting-Que’s for them to help deal with the increasing Covid-19 infections.

The closure, according to Que on a radio program that started on August 24, 2021, was done to discourage the public from going out, prevent social gatherings and to limit the interzonal movement.

Additionally, it was a show of support support to help frontliners not get overwhelmed with the surge in cases.

Earlier, Que made the appeal through a virtual meeting between the local government and the business sectors, particularly the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Tuguegarao City and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) - Tuguegarao Chapter.

Que disclosed that before the lockdown, the merchants of the Filipino-Chinese Community requested to close businesses as the Covid-19 situation continues to worsen in Tuguegarao.

The closure shall be for a week.

Most of the businesses which agreed to a voluntary closure are hardware, electrical stores and food establishments.

Others, on the other hand, will still operate following the 50% capacity and will only accept takeout orders.

With the implementation of temporary closure of business establishments, the City will have an opportunity for the Disinfection Activity set from August 29 to 30, 2021.

Meanwhile, Rufito Pagauitan, a merchant of pest control, volunteered to lend materials/equipment for the disinfection activity.

The city is still under lockdown until August 28, 2021, with ‘strict’ health protocols.
