Dead man found in Tabuk irrigation canal identified, possibly died of drowning


Tabuk City, Kalinga – The dead man found floating in the irrigation canal in Tabuk City was identified by the Police as a teenager from Quezon, Isabela.


The young man’s body was retrieved by rescuers at Sitio Maledda, Barangay Ipil yesterday, January 11.


According to a report from the Tabuk City Police Station, the young man was identified by his parents as Abel Jaramillio, 19, construction worker, and a resident of Barangay Santos, Quezon, Isabela.

A blotter from the Tabuk Traffic Management Unit revealed that the man is the one involved in the road accident, which happened around 2:00 AM on January 9. However, the incident was only reported to the police around 7:30 in the morning.


Based on the report, the victim who was on board his motorcycle was coming from Sitio Maledda and was on his way to Bacras, Bulanao when he accidentally crashed against a car that was parked unattended.


Due to the impact, the victim plunged into the irrigation canal where then he was allegedly dragged by the water current. The police report stated the man had a wound on his left eyebrow.

A search and retrieval operation was conducted by the police and concerned residents, but they weren’t able to find the body of the man.


On January 11, two days after the incident, the man was found floating in the irrigation canal around 1:00 PM.
