Family lost over P1.9M of belongings to residential fire in Tabuk City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A family lost around P1.9 million worth of belongings after a fire razed their house in Purok 1, Bulanao past 11 o’clock in the evening this June 17.

Bureau of Fire Protection Tabuk investigator, Senior Fire Officer 1 Allen Apalla narrated that around 11:57 in the evening, they received an information about an ongoing fire that they immediately proceeded to the area, but the house was already engulfed by the fire.

Apalla described the fire has already reached the ceiling which was made of wood, “naka-penetrate daytoy apoy ditoy banda iti ceiling en, agru-ruwar ditoy windows na dagiay apoy en.”

Putting off the fire was more challenging, Apalla disclosed, because of the narrow and one way road going to the area. He said their fire truck could not easily exit to refill.

“Imbag ta adda diay orange [fire truck] a nag-back-up, diay maikatallo a truck tayo isu iti nagre-refill lattan, isu iti nag-in and out,” he said.

Since most things inside the house were susceptible to fire- the wooden ceiling, cabinets, cushions, clothings, and other furniture- it took the BFP five loads of water and almost an hour to stop the fire.

The investigator said the fire was put under control at 1:05 AM and it was declared fire out at 1:40 in the morning.

Fortunately, no one was harmed during the incident.

Where the fire came from

According to Apalla, a maid narrated to them that she she saw fire coming from their extended kitchen and could almost reach the main house.

The house owners were then notified and the fuse was immediately turned off before they finally got out.

“Iti estimate mi a naggapwan na diay apoy, ditoy banda iti extension kitchen da, not part of the main house,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the BFP.

Apalla said this is so far the worst residential fire in Tabuk City this year.

There were eight residential fire recorded in Kalinga from January to June this 2021, according to the data of BFP – Kalinga.
