Tabuk City, Kalinga – To help reduce the residual wastes in the province and turn it profitable, the Environmental Management Bureau-Cordillera (EMB-CAR) turned over on Monday, October 25 a Plastic Chair Factory Set to the provincial government of Kalinga.

The set of recycling equipment involves pieces of machinery, namely: 1 plastic shredder machine, 1 plastic washer, 1 plastic dryer machine, 2 units plastic extruder, 2 units hydraulic press machine, 2 cooling tubs, plastic chair molds, pollution control system, accessories and other tools needed in operating the machine.

Leslie Baluga of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office said the equipment will be used in producing plastic armchairs through the processing of soft plastics and metallic foils from residual wastes.

Accordingly, the equipment is environment-friendly as it comes with an adequate pollution control system with a performance reduction ranging from 80 to 90 percent based on the DENR emission standard.

Wastewater, which comes from its plastic washer, plastic dryer, and cooling tubs, also undergoes a series of treatment stages to reduce the sludge microplastics and the like, and recycle the treated water back to process. The equipment assures that no untreated water will be discharged.

How the Equipment Works

All waste plastic materials are fed through the plastic shredder machine, which will then go through the washer and dry.

Once the desired temperature is reached, the shredded dried plastic will be loaded continuously to the extruder machine. From there, melted plastic is then taken out from the barrel discharge outlet and placed in the 7 mold parts of 1 chair set.

The molds will then be placed on the baling machines for pressing, which will, later on, be submerged in the cooling tub before taking out the molded plastic to assemble all parts of the molded plastic to form one complete chair.

Meantime, in a statement, Governor Ferdinand Tubban expressed gratitude to EMB-CAR since Kalinga could now reduce the problems on solid waste management through said equipment.

He also committed that the PLGU will take care and utilize it as intended.
