Updated: Mar 29

San Mateo, Isabela - Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with about seven hundred thousand people dying yearly, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

A new case was recorded in San Mateo, Isabela on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. Police identified the deceased as alias “Efren,” a farmer and a resident of Barangay Bella Luz, San Mateo.

Based on police reports, Efren had a drinking spree with his family on the evening of said day. During the gathering, he asked permission from them to go to Manila to work with his cousins.

However, his older brother did not allow him to go due to his health condition, as Efren was suffering from epilepsy.

Minutes later, Efren left their gathering place and did not return until his body was found hanging from a tree the next day.

Several attempts were made to save his life, but Efren was not able to survive.
