P1.8 million worth of science empowerment projects allocated for 15 barangays in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga― PhP1.8 million has been allocated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) project for the End Local Communist Armed Conflict/ Communist Terrorist Group (ELCAC-CTG)-affected and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) covering 4 municipalities and 15 barangays in the province.


Through the virtual special ‘Kapihan sa DOST-CAR’, DOST-CAR Director Dr. Nancy Bantog informed that DOST-CAR’s PhP9 million budget was approved by the national government for the programs and projects.

“Adda met ti counterpart ti DOST-CAR ditoy it’s not only the funds that we got from Manila, more or less we are contributing also to our Region to cover some areas not covered in this 9 million,” she said.


Bantog said the PhP9 million fund shall cover 6 provinces, 14 municipal local government units (LGUs) and 59 Barangay (LGUs).


For Kalinga with an allotment of PhP1,858,589.06, there will be 4 municipalities and 15 barangays to be benefited.


Identified beneficiaries are Barangays Mabaca, Balantoy, Gawaan, Ababaan, Daoangan, Maling in Balbalan; Tanglag, Western Uma, Upper Uma, and Lower Uma in Lubuagan; Baay, Apatan, Wagod and Ammacian in Pinukpuk and Guinaang in Pasil.

Meanwhile, she said that with the whole-of-the-nation approach, they have partnered with LGUs and partner organizations to ensure success in the implementation of the program.


“And haan nga kaya ti DOST isu ngarud nga the goal of the whole-of-the-nation approach…partnered with local government units ta isuda met ti adda idiay front line talaga nga mangkita nu anya ti mayat nga programs that’s why we also check their development plans metlaeng ta maamwan, ma identify nu anya ti specific interventions that we do,” she said.


“Also our partner organizations, these are organized individuals to accommodate the purpose to help the beneficiaries and LGUs because we can only do so much because of limited manpower, we multiply ourselves to the LGUs,” she added.
