Rebel camp storing war materials found in Abra ahead of NPA anniversary

Abra, Philippines – No war materials were left to be retrieved from an abandoned camp of suspected rebels in Tubo, Abra, after the government discovered the location and collected all items and belongings of the group.

The materials were recovered by the military on March 22, six days ahead of the 55th founding anniversary of the New People’s Army on March 29.

The 5th Infantry Division identified the collected arms cache as a Cal. 22 rifle, a grenade, items used for the creation of improvised explosive devices, ammunition and magazines for M16 and AK-47 rifles, several blasting caps, detonating cords, and fuses, cellular phones, documents, and other belongings of the rebels.

The camp was described by the 5th ID as a storage facility for members of the communist terrorist group operating in Tubo, Abra, and Besao, Mountain Province.

The government troops were able to discover the camp with the help and support of the community, who provided information to the authorities.

"Ang pagkakadiskubreng ito ay ilang araw bago ang anibersaryo ng rebeldeng NPA ngayong ika-29 ng Marso ay indikasyon lamang sa pag-abandona ng mga miyembro at paghina ng teroristang grupo," the 5th ID wrote.
