Tanudan, Kalinga – Taking its part to address a global health challenge like Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome(HIV/AIDS) is a huge step to making a difference, and Tanudan LGU decides to add to the effort.

Doing their part in the campaign to raise awareness on said virus, the Tanudan Local Government Unit led by Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag through the Municipal Health Unit headed by Dr. Sandra Valledor held a Candlelight Memorial event on May 18 in Banagao, Poblacion.

The event aimed to remember the many lives lost to HIV/AIDS.

Part of the activity is also the distribution of free condoms to the yTanudans.

Since the early 1980s, around 85.6 million individuals in the globe have incurred HIV wherein about 40.4 million succumbed to the virus.

The Philippines was not spared of the epidemic as HIV has been declared a national emergency in the country in 2017. In fact, latest data of the HIV/AIDS and ART Registry of the Philippines revealed that there are 122,640 individuals living with HIV in the country.

Of the figure, 13,516 are said to be newly diagnosed cases.

The MHO Tanudan urged the public to refrain from believing and spreading fake information about HIV/AIDS as this will not help break the stigma, but rather help others to get well informed about the virus.

Likewise, the public is welcome to avail the HIV/STI counselling and testing facility at the Rural Health Unit Tanudan.
