Tabuk City, Kalinga – As the provincial government unit of Kalinga joined the nation in commemorating the Bible Week this January, Governor Ferdinand Tubban highlighted that the very essence of believing the Word of God is to apply its lessons in life.
Tubban made the remark in his message during the Bible Week Celebration of the provincial government employees at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Hall, Legislative Building on Thursday, January 27.
The annual celebration, the governor explained, is in accordance with Proclamation No. 124 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte, declaring the first month of the year as the National Bible Month and the last week of January as the National Bible Week.
The proclamation, he added, is the state’s way of recognizing the ‘deep faith and religiosity of Filipinos.’
Bible as Faithbook vs Facebook
According to Tubban, the occasion is an opportune time for the public to contemplate their attitude towards the Holy Scriptures or the importance of the Bible in life.
The governor defined the Bible as the basis of faith and religion, therefore it should be regarded as ‘Our Faithbook.’
However, the Faithbook is sometimes neglected due to the influence of social media platforms, such as Facebook. Tubban expressed that he is saddened by this reality in the lives of many Christians today, especially with his observation that social media, at times, ruins one’s reputation just so others can be promoted.
“Iti tiyempo tayo itatta a ti modern technologies are prevalent, nalaka laeng ti agpartuat kadagiti saan a pudno nga impormasyon through the different media platforms, a dadduma kadagitoy ket makadadael pay iti nagan wenno reputasyon ti maysa a tao,” Tubban stressed.
These negative impacts of the social media platforms, Tubban said, are the reasons why the people should turn to the Bible, which is ‘a true, reliable, and authentic source of knowledge and information.’
Put the Bible’s important lessons into practice
While reading the Bible provides inspiration through the love and teachings of God, the governor underscored that putting the Bible’s lessons into practice is ‘absolutely necessary.’
“Uray no itantandudo tayo ti Bibliya ngem kurang wenno awan met ti aplikasyon na iti panagbiag tayo, agbalin nga awan mamaay na dagiti leksiyon a maadal tayo iti sao ti Apo,” Tubban stated.
