Tinglayan, Kalinga – The local government unit with their historical documentation project dubbed as ‘Project Funsi’ hoping to record the culture, tradition and history of the Ytinglayan people is underway.

The Tinglayan Municipal Information Office reports that the book project which was launched last February will give focus on the history of its sub-tribes namely yTongrayans, yFutfuts, ySumachers, yFasaos, yChananaos, yFangads and the yTurcaos.

‘Funsi’, is a local term which means to uncover and unearth.

In an interview with Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, the project, he said, intends to research and record first-hand their people’s history to help educate the younger and future generation providing them references about their roots, which in a way would help preserve their identity as a people.

For said project, the mayor relates that researchers will be taking accounts from the elders on the origin of their sub-tribes and the toponym of their places that belong to specific cultural or tribal communities.

“Amin-amin in a way a ma-unearth kuma dagidiay haan tayu pay nabasa from other books already written ken maala diay talaga a gapu nu apay kasdiay diay nagan ti maysa nga ili or place, where did people came from ken dagidiay questions nga uray tatta ket haan a klaro diay existing answers,” Gumilab said.

In a separate interview, Tinglayan LGU Information Officer Larae Lactao relayed that technique which shall be utilized for the data gathering is through interview, document review and observation (IDO) technique.

During the data gathering process, Lactao informed that focus group discussion shall be conducted after conversing individually with the eyewitnesses to further verify truthfulness of information shared by each of them.

“Ti focus group discussion ket depende met lang idiay current focused topic ta ti goal iti FGD ket ma-gather dagidiay elders ket adda kuma iti discussion or if possible debates ta through ti debates ket mai-verify nu anya ti makuna ti majority a kaagpaysuwan diay data previously gathered during one-on-one interviews,” Lactao explained.

“But we are not going to rely solely iti interviews, but use it as basis to compass the direction of the research kasi nu anya ti napagtutungtungan dagidiay elders during FGD ket sigurado nga adda iti kaagpaysuwanan na,” she added.

For the document review, the information officer shared that researchers are assigned to look for information and documents published either online or offline such as books for fact checking of misstated information about Tinglayan.

“We want our research to be as accurate as possible even if it takes time,” Lactao emphasized.

Data gathered by the researchers, Lactao said will then be compiled for the making of the book.

For their safety during the pandemic, researchers are advised to follow health and safety protocols in doing the gathering of data such as the wearing of facemask and observance of social distancing. Data gathering for said pursuit started February 1, 2021.
