Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Tuguegarao City might revert to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status should the recommendation of the City Local Government Unit be approved by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force (RIATF).

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office reports that Mayor Jefferson Soriano met with the local officials this August 9 and the body agreed to recommend the re-imposition of ECQ in Tuguegarao due to the uncontrolled increase of Covid-19 cases for the past 2 weeks.

Additionally, the City LGU shall submit their recommendation letter to Provincial Governor Manual Mamba for his endorsement to RIATF which will be the one to decide whether to grant the proposal.

Meantime, Tuguegarao has recorded 9 Covid-19 related deaths this August 8, the highest Covid-19 death cases documented in the city. From said number, 4 died in the hospital while 5 others succumb to the disease at their homes.

Mayor Soriano, in a Facebook post, explained that the 5 individuals who died at their houses were only discovered to have been infected with the virus when they were swabbed after death.

“Kami po ay nakikiramay sa kanilang mga pamilya. Sana po ay hindi na maranasan ng iba nating kababayan ang ganitong malungkot na sitwasyon,” Soriano wrote, appealing for the cooperation of the public especially those who are close contacts of Covid-19 patients to message the Covid-19 hotline, 09563477981 / 09168872897.

Meanwhile, as of August 8, there are a total of 613 active cases in Tuguegarao with 83 new cases recorded.

The Province of Cagayan is under the heightened General Community Quarantine from August 1–15.
