Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga Governor Ferdinand Tubban emphasized the role of the media in these times of pandemic and disasters as well as in pushing for widest information dissemination of government programs for the public to take advantages of its services during his short visit to the Learning Exchange Forum between the Department of Social Welfare and Development – CAR and the media in the province this November 18-19, 2020.

“Kailangan tayo ti media tapno maipablaak dagiti government services tayo, kasta met nga tapno mas effective ti information campaign, mas maawatan ken mas napaspaspas nga dumteng kadagiti publiko,” said Tubban.

Tubban likewise appreciated the activity of the DSWD-CAR for having considered partnering with local media.

The DSWD-CAR initiated the media engagement and media tour in the province, which is first in the region, in order to strengthen relationship and collaborate with them for information campaign, dissemination and content creation regarding DSWD’s programs and projects.

The core of the engagement is the discussion of the 4Ps program or the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, understanding its aims, selection process, conditions, legal basis, and issues surrounding the program.

In order to have a more truthful look at the program, presentation of data, personal visit to 4Ps projects, and face-to-face interviews with beneficiaries were done which led to a deeper understanding and having a personal connection.

Meantime, Susuna Daluping, CSWDO Officer of Tabuk City, in her closing remarks said she is delighted to see the media joining an activity where open discussions with welfare and development officers have the time to explain and answer questions.

Daluping said some people gave a sinister name to Pantawid as Pantamad just because of few cases of irresponsible Pantawid beneficiaries. Nevertheless, she explained that it is not the Pantawid program that made people become drunkards or gamblers.

“Even without Pantawid, dati da metten dagita nga sugador ken manginom. Ngem conditional dayta nga Pantawid… adda dagiti dapat aramiden dagiti beneficiaries tapno maiikan da,” explained Daluping. She added that since the local media has now a direct contact with DSWD province, issues about the program shall be clarified and be reported closer to the truth that there are many people who are benefitting from the program.
