2 lady guards in Santiago hospital shot dead by colleague

Isabela, Philippines – It was a fine and normal Thursday afternoon at Southern Isabela Medical Center(SIMC) in Santiago City when gunfire erupted inside the facility, killing two lady guards.

In a CCTV footage released on Facebook, a man was seen talking to a lady guard before he shot the latter and killed another guard inside the hospital.

According to a police report, as cited by XFM Santiago, the man identified as Randolf Cadang Lacaden, 40, a resident of Balintocatoc, Santiago City, is also a security guard at SIMC but he was off-duty when the shooting incident happened around 3:00 p.m. on July 27.

Lacaden who was alleged to be intoxicated at the time entered the building and approached one of the guards who was also his ex-girlfriend, Ruby Joy Sapaula, 36, a resident of Barangay Mabini, and asked her to lend him money.

The two seemed to have argued, as seen on the CCTV, until the suspect pulled Sapaula’s issued firearm and shot her.

As he was about to exit the building, he fired the gun again towards another lady guard identified to be Alpha Joy Dela Peña who was from Palanan, Isabela.

The two victims were brought to the Emergency Room of the hospital. Unfortunately, the two sustained fatal gunshot wounds and later passed away.

The suspect, meantime, was arrested by responding police and is now at the Santiago City Police Office Precinct 3.
