Councilor Suma-al underscores cultural preservation during Tabuk City’s 21st Matagoan Festival

Tabuk City, Kalinga – In his message to the public during the opening of the 21st Matagoan Festival this June 22, 2022, Councilor Samuel Suma-al highlighted the importance of preserving culture, especially in a city like Tabuk.

Suma-al is one of the leaders in the city whose advocacy is to keep the traditions of the place alive by reminding the young people to know and practice the culture.

Culture, he defined, is the identity or what makes Tabukeños unique from other communities.

“Iti kultura iti Kalinga, ti kultura tayo ket kasapulan ta isu ti pangbigbigan dagiay kakailyan iti naduma-duma nga ili kadatayo nga taga-Kalinga karkaru ditoy ayan tayo nga Tabuk,” Suma-al stressed.

According to Suma-al, the forebearers safeguarded the culture of the locality and it is the duty of the ones alive to pass the same to the next generation.

“Masapul daytoy (kultura) ket patibkeren tayo tapnu iti kasta ket agnanayun nga isu iti tawiden dagiti annak tayo ta daytoy ket tinawid tayo kadagiay nagannak tayo, dagiay inmuna nga tao. Ket masapul nga ipatawid tayo metlang kadagiti ubbing tayo,” said the councilor.

Matagoan Festival is an annual event, happening in June, which showcases culture and tradition of various tribes in the City of Tabuk apart from other added activities aimed at tourism and strengthening of the local economy.
