Gattaran, Cagayan - The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) clarified Tuesday, June 21, that the dead pigs thrown on the side of the road in Gattaran, Cagayan showed no signs of the African Swine Fever (ASF) disease.
The clarification was made in an interview by Cagayan PIO to Dr. Myka Ponce of PVET-Cagayan.
On Sunday, a barangay kagawad at Zone 7, Sta. Maria, Gattaran saw 18 dead pigs dumped on the side of the road for no apparent reason.
With the assistance of barangay officials and the community, said pigs were already buried.
Dr. Ponce said they provided disinfectants in the area nearby where the pigs were dumped as well as to neighboring barangays.
She further explained that there are no hog raisers in Gattaran raising such numbers of pigs and stressed that there is no case of ASF in the municipality.
However, there is a possibility that the dead pigs came from another place and were only dumped in that place.
Only the town of Lasam, Cagayan, Ponce disclosed, has a case of ASF as shown in their record last month.
With the issue, the monitoring of PVET throughout the province for ASF will be intensified.
As recalled, the total ban on the entry into Cagayan of live hogs, fresh frozen pork and processed products has been lifted based on Executive Order No. 06 by Governor Manuel N. Mamba.
