Tricycle driver in Tabuk abandons vehicle with P4M marijuana, evading police

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Around 4 million pesos worth of suspected marijuana bricks were discovered after a tricycle driver ignored a checkpoint at Nambaran Junction past 11:00 PM on Friday, May 6, 2022.

While the police were conducting an anti-criminality checkpoint late night at the said area for a different operation, a tricycle coming from the Bulanao direction suddenly sped off and turned towards the direction of Agbannawag.

The suspicious vehicle was chased by the police. However, the driver of the tricycle was said to have intentionally let his vehicle plunge into the rice field at the side of the road and then ran away.

The driver had managed to escape and when the operatives checked the tricycle, there was a sack containing suspected dried marijuana leaves.

In the presence of personnel from the Department of Justice, media, and the barangay officials, the said sack and the tricycle was retrieved from the rice field.

Upon opening the said sack, 34 pieces of bricks believed to be marijuana were discovered. These contrabands have a total estimated value of P4,080,000. Also, the police have confiscated the tricycle and its key, the plate number, and the pair of sleepers which is believed to be owned by the suspect.

An investigation in identifying the driver-suspect is ongoing.
