Balbalan, Kalinga – In 2023, Balbalan recorded P8,193,109.68, exceeding its P6,756,658 annual target set by the Bureau of Local Government Finance. With its 121.26 rate of collection, it ranked second among the municipalities in Kalinga.
With their feat, the municipal government of Balbalan, under Malannag administration, through Municipal Treasurer Ma. Leonore Gunday commended not only the collection efforts of the civil servants but also those of the stakeholders and taxpayers who contributed to the town’s success.
As a gesture of appreciation to their constituents, the local government unit awarded worth P1 million in cash prizes to the top three barangays with the highest tax collection efficiency performance.
Clinching the top spot was Barangay Gawaan with collection efficiency at 81.91 percent, thus, pocketing a P500,000 prize.
Settling for second place with a P300,000 prize was Barangay Balantoy which achieved 64.14 percent efficiency.
Barangay Poblacion came in third with 57.49 percent efficiency, earning the P200,000 cash reward.
The awarding and recognition took place on March 16, coinciding with the celebration of the 16th Manchatchatong Festival.
For his part, Mayor Almar Malannag lauded the top-performing barangays and challenged other villages to view the awarding as an opportunity to enhance their collection efforts within their communities.
