71-yr.-old drowns while crossing Chico River in Suyang, Tabuk

Tabuk City, Kalinga – An elderly man drowned after attempting to cross the Chico River in Barangay Suyang Wednesday morning, July 24, 2024.

 

The victim identified as Palangdao Pidong, 71, together with his companion, reportedly went fishing at the Chico River early morning of said day.

 

Kalinga Police Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip relayed that based on the companion’s narrative, the 71-year-old told him he was going to cross the river. However, while doing so, the elderly got swept by the water current.

 

The companion, together with another person who happened to be in the area, swam after the elderly who got swept 100 meters away. They tried resuscitating him before he was rushed to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital in Bulanao.

 

Unfortunately, the elderly was declared dead by the attending physician. Manganip cited that his cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to drowning.
