TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The provincial government has allocated ₱5 million for the construction of an access road leading to Nambaran Cemetery, as Governor James S. Edduba seeks to improve accessibility to the site, which has also emerged as a local tourist attraction.

According to the Kalinga Provincial Information Office (PIO), Edduba said the funding would provide a proper road leading to the cemetery, making it easier for visitors and families to reach the burial site.

“Actually, it’s now an attraction to tourists. For the Province of Kalinga, we allotted P5 million for its access road so there will be a proper road going to the cemetery,” Edduba said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.

The governor explained that the project would benefit not only tourists but also families visiting the graves of their departed loved ones, particularly those who have difficulty accessing the cemetery.

Nambaran Cemetery has drawn public interest because of its distinctive graves and the personal stories behind them. Among its notable features is a grave designed like an ambulance, built by Edduba’s family in memory of his grandfather, who had once wished to have a vehicle that could bring him home to Colayo, including an ambulance.

The unusual grave design has become one of the cemetery’s attractions, reflecting the personal histories and family stories preserved in the burial site.

The ₱5-million allocation aims to improve access while supporting the cemetery’s growing tourism interest and preserving the stories that make it unique.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reminded visitors to observe proper decorum, respect the graves and privacy of other families, and refrain from littering or damaging cemetery property. Visitors are also encouraged to keep the area clean and peaceful.
