TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Two commercial buildings in Bulanao Norte were gutted by fire on Thursday evening, October 29, leaving one individual injured, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Initial information from the BFP-Tabuk City showed that firefighters were dispatched to Purok Datu at around 8:48 p.m. after receiving reports of an ongoing fire.

Upon arrival, responding personnel found the two establishments already engulfed in flames, prompting them to raise the first alarm, indicating that the fire could be handled by the initial responding firefighting team.

The fire was placed under control at around 9:35 p.m. and was officially declared extinguished at 9:54 p.m.

Meanwhile, one individual sustained injuries during the incident. Responding local authorities administered first aid before transporting the victim to a hospital for further medical treatment.

The BFP-Tabuk City is still investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of property damage.

The initial report did not identify the establishments involved or indicate the estimated value of the losses. The circumstances surrounding the fire also remain under investigation.

The incident comes amid an increase in fire occurrences in Kalinga.

In September, the BFP-Kalinga reported that local fire stations responded to 12 fire incidents during the third quarter of 2026, comprising eight structural and four non-structural fires.

The figure was 25 percent higher than the nine incidents recorded during the same period in 2025.
