KABAYAN, Benguet – Five individuals, including a 3-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy, died in a road accident involving a truck in Kabayan, Benguet, on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026.

The accident occurred in Sitio Guay, Barangay Poblacion, where a six-wheeler truck carrying 39 passengers from Mountain Province to Nueva Vizcaya reportedly overturned due to an initially suspected mechanical failure.

The Kabayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) was alerted to the incident by a concerned citizen at around 10:07 a.m., prompting emergency responders to immediately proceed to the scene and rescue the victims.

Kabayan Mayor Rex Alwin Aquisan said on May 28 that five individuals were confirmed dead as a result of the accident, including the two young boys.

He added that 10 victims who sustained multiple injuries and fractures were referred to the Dennis Molintas District Hospital, while 13 others with minor injuries were immediately treated at the Kabayan Rural Health Unit.

Aquisan also said that the local government had already coordinated with the Municipal Local Government Unit of Bauko, Mountain Province, since most of the victims were residents of the municipality.

The mayor extended his sympathies and prayers to the victims and their families and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information about the incident.

“We ask the public for their cooperation and responsible sharing of information, especially on social media. Let us avoid spreading unverified reports that may cause unnecessary fear or confusion,” Aquisan said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

This news about the truck overturn in Benguet was very sad to read, especially knowing that young children were among those who lost their lives. As a student, I sometimes struggle to keep up with lessons when following serious news events, and I once used online class help during a stressful week. It gave me more time to focus on understanding important issues. Stories like this remind us to value safety every day.
