Tabuk City Councilor Bon-as takes helm as National Movement of Young Legislators-Cordillera Chairperson

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Tabuk City Councilor Jayferson Bon-as formally assumed his new role as Chairperson of the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL)-Cordillera, taking his oath of office before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace on August 26, 2026.

Bon-as, who was elected NMYL-Cordillera chairperson in August 2025, joined fellow NMYL officials from across the country during the oath-taking ceremony at the President’s Hall at Malacañang Palace.

The NMYL is an organization of elected lawmakers aged 40 and below that seeks to empower young legislators through effective lawmaking, good governance, transparency and public administration.

Guided by its “New Politics” advocacy, the organization promotes principled leadership, clear policy platforms and measurable performance while developing young local officials into capable, ethical and experienced leaders.

With his formal assumption of the position, Bon-as said he is grateful and humbled by the opportunity to lead young legislators in the Cordillera and implement initiatives that strengthen their role in public service.

“As young leaders entrusted with public office, our responsibility is bigger than our titles. We need to transform our voices into action, our ideas into policies, and our positions into meaningful service,” Bon-as said.

He said taking his oath is more than a personal milestone, describing it as a renewed commitment to serve with integrity and compassion.

“This is more than an achievement; it is a renewed commitment to serve with integrity and compassion. I am grateful for the trust, for this opportunity, and for everyone who continues to believe in the work we do,” he said.

As NMYL-Cordillera chairperson, Bon-as is expected to help advance initiatives that encourage young legislators in the region to turn their ideas and platforms into concrete policies and meaningful public service.
