TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A family in Barangay Lacnog was shocked to find their home ransacked and a returning overseas Filipino worker’s savings for her trip back to Dubai missing on Thursday, October 22.

The 36-year-old woman reportedly lost between 480 and 500 United Arab Emirates dirhams, which she had kept for expenses when she returns abroad after a one-month vacation in Kalinga.

According to the victim’s sibling, the money was stored in a black backpack inside their home in Sitio Dananao, Lacnog. The family discovered it was missing between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., while the woman and her husband were at Sitio Sunshine in Ungab to oversee the construction of their house.

Their two children were still at school when the couple left, leaving the house unoccupied.

The family became aware of the suspected break-in when one of the children arrived home and found four cabinets and the kitchen drawers rummaged through. Plates had been scattered after being removed from their storage case, while a rice container had been overturned, spilling rice onto the floor.

The victim had returned to Kalinga during the first week of October and had kept part of her earnings in Dubai instead of exchanging all the money, intending to use the remaining foreign currency for her return trip.

“Kuarta ni ading ko from Dubai sinmangpet di first week of this month isunga haan na insukat amin ta usarenna metlng agsubli ta one month vacation lang suna,” the sibling said.

The family is appealing to whoever took the money to return it and is urging the public to report any information that could help locate the missing currency.

Anyone with information may contact the family at 0965-543-6933 or report it to the authorities.

As of the information provided, no suspect or arrest has been reported.
