TABUK CITY, Kalinga — With Tabuk City accounting for 118 of the 125 vehicular incidents responded to by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Kalinga from July to September 2026, Councilor Errol Comafay Jr. is seeking a legislative inquiry into the possible installation of speed bumps and rumble strips to help prevent road crashes.

Comafay filed a resolution before the Sangguniang Panlungsod on October 21, seeking an inquiry in aid of legislation to determine whether these pavement safety features could reduce vehicular accidents at selected road intersections and pedestrian crossings in the city.

BFP Kalinga records showed that Tabuk accounted for 118 of the 125 vehicular incidents during the third quarter of 2026. During the same period in 2025, the city recorded 64 of the 72 incidents responded to by the agency.

Comafay said the figures prompted him to push for an assessment of additional road safety measures that could help minimize accidents, particularly in areas where motorists and pedestrians are at risk.

“Nag-file tayo ng Resolution para magkaroon ng inquiry in aid of legislation para alamin kung makakapigil o makakabawas ba sa aksidente sa daan ang paglalagay ng speed bumps at rumble strips sa mga piling intersection at crossing sa Tabuk City,” Comafay said.

Speed bumps are designed to force vehicles to slow down, while rumble strips alert drivers who may be drowsy, distracted, or inattentive. Both features can serve as physical reminders for motorists to observe road safety even when traffic enforcers are not present.

Through the proposed inquiry, the city council aims to determine whether installing these features at selected locations would be an effective response to the high number of road incidents.

The resolution is expected to be taken up during the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s regular session on October 27, 2026.
