TABUK CITY, Kalinga — A mother’s discovery led to the arrest of her 19-year-old son after police caught him allegedly using shabu in a makeshift house in Mapaoay, Ipil, Tabuk City, on Tuesday evening, October 13.

Police operatives responded to a report of alleged drug use at around 6:50 p.m., according to Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) spokesperson PMaj. Ruff Manganip, who spoke to GURU Press Cordillera.

The suspect, a carpenter whose name was withheld, was reportedly caught by his mother while using suspected shabu in a makeshift house near their residence.

The mother alerted their police officer relative who then reported the incident to the Tabuk City Police Station.

Police officers proceeded to the area, where the mother led them to the location. Authorities said they caught the 19-year-old in the act of using shabu.

The suspect, described by police as a newly identified drug personality, was arrested. Police also confiscated three sachets of suspected shabu weighing a total of 1.75 grams and drug paraphernalia.

He was brought to the Tabuk City Police Station for documentation and the filing of a case for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The arrest came a day after two tricycle drivers were arrested in a buy-bust operation at Dagupan Public Market on October 12 for allegedly selling suspected shabu to undercover police officers.
