Man in Mt. Province buried by rockslide while saving motorcycle, rescued in the nick of time

Sabangan, Mt. Province – Authorities in Mountain Province rushed to the aid of a motorist who was buried by a rockslide in Sabangan early Friday morning, May 15, 2026.

 

According to the Provincial Information Office of Mt. Province, a rockslide occurred along the Sitio Dogo, Napua, Sabangan around 5:00 a.m. after a heavy rainfall in the area yesterday.

 

During the incident, witnesses told the authorities that the victim attempted to save his motorcycle from getting buried in the slide but got covered by the debris.

 

Responders, after being alerted of the incident, rushed to the area where they managed to rescue the injured victim and bring him to the hospital for immediate medical intervention.

 

The Mountain Province government advised motorists and travelers traversing the Maba-ay - Sabangan - Bontoc Road to take the Sabangan - Abatan, Bauko - Maba-ay as an alternate route until further notice.

 

“With these, the Mountain Province DRRM Office/ Council enjoins ALL MOTORISTS/ PASSERSBY TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE TRAVERSING ROADS, especially with the occasional thunderstorms that could cause slope erosion,” the provincial information office wrote.
