NAAKSIDENTE, NAGPATULONG SA PULIS, NAARESTO: Driver nabbed after revolver found in backpack

ILAGAN CITY, Isabela — A response to a self-inflicted vehicular accident led to the arrest of a man after police allegedly found an undocumented caliber revolver inside his backpack in Barangay Barucboc, Quezon, Isabela, early morning on September 1, 2026.

At around 2:36 a.m., the Tactical Operation Center of the Quezon Police Station received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a vehicular accident in Purok 5, Barangay Barucboc.

Duty patrol officers were immediately dispatched to verify the report. Upon arrival, they found a man identified by the alias “Danilo” lying in a rice field beside his motorcycle.

Police requested assistance from Quezon Rescue 819, which provided first aid to the injured man.

While one of the responding officers was attending to the motorcycle, he noticed a backpack reportedly damaged in the crash and hanging from the motorcycle's handlebar.

Upon inspection, police allegedly saw a caliber revolver in plain view inside the backpack.

The man was asked to present documents proving the firearm's legal ownership and possession but allegedly failed to provide any. Police then arrested him for a possible violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Aside from the revolver, authorities recovered the backpack, identification cards, a cellphone charger, wallet, cash and other personal belongings. The man's SYM motorcycle, which had no attached license plate, was also taken into custody.

Police conducted the marking, inventory and photographing of the seized items at the scene in the presence of an elected barangay official from Barangay Barucboc, in accordance with established procedures.

Following the operation, the arrested man was brought to Quezon Community Hospital for medical treatment and physical examination.

The seized firearm and other evidence were subsequently brought to the Quezon Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

Police said they were preparing the necessary documents for the filing of charges through inquest proceedings, while firearm verification was also being conducted on the seized weapon.

According to Isabela Police Provincial Office Provincial Director PCOL Manuel B. Bringas, the incident highlights the importance of promptly responding to calls for assistance and remaining vigilant during police operations.

He said the police response to the reported accident also resulted in the discovery of a firearm that must undergo the appropriate legal process.

The Isabela police said they will continue to intensify their campaign against illegal firearms and other violations of the law while urging residents to report suspicious activities or incidents in their communities.
