34-year-old former rebel captured in Sagada, Mountain Province

BONTOC, Mountain Province — A 34-year-old former rebel squad leader wanted for murder and attempted murder was arrested by police in Barangay Tanulong, Sagada, Mountain Province on September 24, according to a report from the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office (MPPPO).


The suspect, whose identity was withheld, was identified by police as a former squad leader of the dismantled Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Montes/Leonardo Pacsi Command. He was also listed in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Periodic Status Report Threat Groups (PSRTG) Watchlist for the fourth quarter of 2020.


Police said the suspect was arrested by virtue of warrants issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 36 in Bontoc, Mountain Province.


The warrant for murder carries no recommended bail, while the warrant for attempted murder carries a recommended bail of P120,000.


The arrest was led by the 1st Mountain Province Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) and the Sagada Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the 2nd Mountain Province PMFC, Provincial Intelligence Unit, Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, and Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Unit of the MPPPO.


Also involved were personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 and the Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO CAR).


According to the police report, the operation forms part of the PNP's continuing coordinated law enforcement efforts under its Focused Agenda, particularly the Enhanced Managing Police Operations, in support of public safety and peace and order in the Cordillera.
