BAGUIO CITY – A 20-year-old college student from Cagayan was arrested after she was allegedly caught using a credit card taken from one of her two schoolmates whose wallets went missing in Magsaysay Avenue, Happy Homes, Baguio City, on Tuesday, October 20.

According to local police, the two victims, aged 25 and 26, discovered their wallets missing from their bags as they were preparing to have lunch.

The wallets contained their identification cards and money. The victims searched for their belongings but failed to find them.

One of the victims later received a message from a relative informing her that her credit card had been used to pay for a grocery purchase in La Trinidad, Benguet.

The victims immediately proceeded to the establishment, where they intercepted the suspect. Grocery personnel apprehended her and turned her over to the police.

The victims recovered their wallets, while the suspect was placed in temporary detention as authorities prepared the appropriate charges.

The incident follows other reported theft cases in Baguio and nearby areas. In June 2025, a woman was arrested after allegedly stealing a driver’s wallet along Magsaysay Avenue. In January 2026, police investigated a suspected distraction theft at a restaurant along Upper Session Road in which a bag containing cash, credit cards and other valuables was taken.

Authorities have not publicly established whether the latest incident is connected to any previous theft case. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
