Pidigan, Abra – The life of a police officer, described as a dedicated public servant who put the welfare of others before his own, was cut short following a tragic crash in Pidigan, Abra, last week.

The victim was identified as Police Corporal Stephen Daoines, a native of Tadian, Mountain Province, who was assigned to the 2nd Abra Provincial Mobile Force Company.

According to police reports obtained by local media outlets, Daoines, along with his wife, PCpl Maricel Abalos, and their young child, was on board a pickup truck heading to Bangued on the afternoon of April 30.

Daoines was driving the vehicle, while his wife and child were seated at the back.

While traversing the road in Barangay Pamutic, Pidigan, the vehicle’s right rear tire reportedly blew out, causing Daoines to lose control and crash into a gmelina tree along the roadside.

Photos attached to police reports showed that the front portion of the vehicle was severely damaged.

Emergency responders immediately rushed to the scene and brought the victims to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Daoines was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Fortunately, Abalos and the child survived the incident and are currently recovering from their injuries.

In a statement, the 2nd Abra Provincial Mobile Force Company mourned not only the loss of a colleague but of a person known for his positive energy and easygoing nature.

“A happy soul, a sharp and reliable colleague, and a true embodiment of service and dedication… PCpl Dao-ines was more than just a fellow officer; he was a friend who brought joy to those around him, a dedicated professional who stood firm in duty, and a public servant who put the welfare of others before his own. His warmth, wit, and unwavering commitment have touched so many lives, and his memory will forever remain etched in our hearts,” the unit said.

“To his beloved family: We feel your pain, and we share in your grief. Please know that you are not alone in this journey of sorrow. We offer our deepest sympathies, our prayers, and our heartfelt support. May you find comfort in knowing that he lived a life of honor, purpose, and meaning—and that his legacy will live on. Rest well, our brother in uniform. You have served with pride, you have loved deeply, and you will never be forgotten,” the statement added.
