TINGLAYAN, Kalinga — Sixteen-year-old iTinglayan boxer Jayden Bang-as punched his way to the spotlight after winning by knockout and earning the “Best Boxer of the Night” award at the Battle of Warriors: Laban Kontra Droga Season 5 on August 22 in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Bang-as was among 250 young fighters from the Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Metro Manila who competed in the tournament, where he saw action in the 52-54-kilogram division.

The young boxer impressed inside the ring with his sharp punches, quick footwork and smooth transition from defense to offense, allowing him to control the bout and secure a gold medal via knockout.

His performance also earned him the special “Best Boxer of the Night” citation, setting him apart from the hundreds of young fighters who participated in the event.

Coach Jeofrey Dalwidao, who organized the tournament, said Bang-as started training in combat sports at the age of 12.

Dalwidao also said the young fighter is a two-time Palarong Pambansa quarterfinalist, highlighting his experience in competitive boxing despite his age.

Tinglayan Mayor Charles Abay congratulated Bang-as for his achievement and dedication to developing his boxing skills.

Abay also encouraged other young people in the municipality to pursue and develop their talents, assuring them of the local government's support for youth development and sports.

“Sapay kuma ta amin nga a-annak tayo iti Tinglayan ket itul-tuloy da latta nga ipakita ken i-hone dagiti skills ken talento da.
