BALBALAN, Kalinga — Four homegrown fighters from Balbalan made a strong showing at the Battle of Warriors: Laban Kontra Droga Season 5, bringing home three gold and one silver medal from the combat sports tournament held August 22 at the Kalinga Sports Center in Bulanao, Tabuk City.

Representing the Balbalan Combative Team, Jugayon B. Pinagod, Jan Allenhart D. Danao, Arvin Bantoc, and Rence Aimyel D. Agyao competed against more than 250 athletes from the Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, and Metro Manila.

Pinagod captured gold in the 48-kilogram division, while Bantoc ruled the 57-kg category. Danao also secured gold after competing in the 56-kg division, giving Balbalan three victories in the kickboxing competition.

Agyao added a silver medal in the 63-kg division, completing the team’s four-medal haul.

The four fighters trained under coaches Arvin Sabado, a silver medalist at the 2026 Siamyut Global Heritage Muaythai Championship, along with Junjie Dawaton and John John Pinagod.

The performance of the young fighters drew praise from the Municipal Government of Balbalan, led by Mayor Almar Malannag, who said the medals demonstrated the talent and potential of homegrown athletes trained in the municipality.

“Dagitoy nga accomplishments iti u-ubbing tayo iti Balbalan ket ipakita na talaga iti strength ken talento dagiti annak tayo.
