Baguio City, Philippines – A 13-year-old girl was sexually abused by a man she met online after a simple reply to one of her social media posts led to what authorities described as online grooming.

According to a police report obtained by local media, a concerned father filed a complaint against a 22-year-old construction worker, accusing him of raping his daughter.

The father said the suspect initiated contact by replying to one of the girl’s social media posts, which developed into an online acquaintance and later into what he described as a “relationship.”

Police said the suspect eventually invited the minor to his boarding house, where the alleged assault took place.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 28, 2026, but was only reported to authorities on April 23 after the father discovered the abuse.

Authorities are currently preparing the necessary documents for the filing of formal charges against the suspect.

The identities of both the victim and the suspect have been withheld as the investigation remains ongoing.

Following the incident, the Baguio City Police Office reminded the public of the dangers of online grooming and urged parents to closely monitor their children’s social media activities.
