Benguet General Hospital installs temporary tents for COVID-19 patients to solve overcrowding

Updated: Sep 9, 2021

La Trinidad, Benguet - The Department of Social Welfare and Development- Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) recently granted temporary facility tents for the Benguet General Hospital (BeGH) to give additional bed-space for new patients being admitted.

20 tents are now installed as requested by BeGH since the hospital reported that COVID-19 beds are now fully occupied.

The tents will also be used for triaging, RT-PCR testing and for proving health services to new patients, preventing overcrowding inside the facility due to the pandemic.

Dr. Meliarazon Fianza Dulay, Chief of Hospital at BeGH, said that most of the patients are already experiencing moderate, severe, and critical symptoms.

Dulay advised the public to seek medical attention once symptoms are felt for early medical intervention.

According to the Governor’s office, the provision of tents was coordinated by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas with the DWSD-CAR Director Arnel Garcia.

Meanwhile, Governor Diclas continues to warn the public against being infected by following the minimum public health standards, while the Health Cluster of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force plans a response to control the surge of COVID-19 and manage patients seeking medical care at the hospital.

He said that funds for emergency procurement of needed supplies, such as oxygen and PPEs, will also be allocated.

Governor Diclas also disclosed that they are now eyeing to hire additional staff to augment manpower at the hospital since other hospitals like Northern Benguet District Hospital (NBDH) have also reported reaching near full capacity at their COVID-19 ward.

The province will be under General Community Quarantine from September 08, 2021 to September 30, 2021, based on the new community quarantine classification announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
