Lallo, Cagayan – A police officer is now facing homicide charges after the tragic death of an elderly person in Lallo, Cagayan, following a three-way car crash.
The incident transpired on Friday, February 9, 2024, along the national road in Catayauan, Lallo.
The police officer, who was driving a Hilux patrol car along with another cop, attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead of them, according to police investigation.
While doing so, their vehicle sideswiped an L300 van, causing the police officer to lose control of the vehicle. It veered into the other lane and collided with a parked Montero, which was dragged several meters, hitting the victim.
The victim, identified as Josefa Julian, 72, was sitting on the shoulder of the road when struck by the patrol car.
Additionally, an elderly person died in a vehicular accident on February 6, 2024, involving another uniformed personnel. This incident occurred in Baraccaoit, Gattaran, Cagayan.
The soldier attempted to overtake the vehicle the victims were riding in, but the 'kulong-kulong' moved into the lane he was about to enter.
As a result, the army vehicle collided with the 'kulong-kulong', causing the husband and wife to sustain injuries in various parts of their bodies. The husband was declared dead on arrival.
