Tabuk police officer killed in a hit-and-run

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Even after several attempts at reviving her, a police investigator of Tabuk City Police Station succumbed to her injuries following a hit-and-run incident on Sunday afternoon in Mapaoay, Ipil.

Before the crash, the victim, Police Staff Sergeant Revelyn Dumaguing, 34, visited her sister in Ipil on Saturday and decided to go home to Bulanao the following day at around 3:30 p.m.

Moments after she left, her sister followed her route, and while traversing the road, they were suddenly slowed down by a commotion on the highway in Mapaoay.

The victim’s sibling recounted to investigators that she went to check what was happening and found her sister Revelyn lying on the side of the national road with blood oozing from her head.

Her motorcycle was also on the highway, while her helmet was described to have been thrown away in the middle of the pavement.

Dumaguing, who was pregnant, was rushed to the Almora General Hospital but was declared dead at around 4:10 p.m. on February 4 due to an internal hemorrhage secondary to a vehicular accident.

The suspect, at the time, was said to have been nowhere to be found at the place of the incident.

Authorities revealed that the victim, who was then onboard her motorcycle, was bumped from behind, evident from the damaged tail light of her motorcycle.

Likewise, police investigators found a part of an Isuzu SUV bumper at the crash site.

Suspect surrenders

On Sunday evening, a 63-year-old who was driving the vehicle being pursued by the police surrendered to the Tabuk City police with Lucog Punong Barangay Nicanor Edas.

The suspect was said to have sought assistance from the barangay chairman.

Appropriate charges against him are now being prepared by the police.
