Tinglayan launches ‘Pumor-asan Express’ to boost ecological solid waste management campaign

Tinglayan, Kalinga – A cleaner, greener, and healthier Tinglayan is drawing closer to realization as the local government unit on Tuesday, July 18, successfully launched the ‘Pumor-asan Express', a group of young ones who will take the lead in backing the solid waste management program of the municipality.

Said group is composed of 46 youngsters who are beneficiaries of the Special Program for Employment of Students and Out-of-School Youth.

Pumor-asan Express is a movement that encourages volunteers from the community, young and old, men and women, to help keep the locality clean and green.

Serving as the highlights of the launching is the conduct of the clean-up drive and a fun run along the road in Faker to the municipal tribal gymnasium led by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, himself.

The participants likewise joined in a ‘Zumba’ session led by personnel of the Rural Health Unit of Tinglayan.

In a statement, Gumilab expressed hope that with the formation of said group, yTinglayans will be encouraged to take part in the campaign and be aware of their responsibilities towards the environment.

“All of us have a responsibility to manage our wastes. Let us be reminded that we have a solemn obligation to keep our environment clean. Know by heart the significance of our 2016 program,” Gumilab stated referring to the Pumor-asan Program of the municipality.

He likewise urged the youth - the future leaders of Tinglayan, to persuade their fellows to join such volunteer groups, not just for a cleaner and healthier Tinglayan but also for the country itself.

The launch of said volunteer group is just one of the many programs in the locality promoting ecological solid waste management.

Various programs and projects were already implemented and are being sustained in line with said program, which includes continuous information and education campaigns on proper waste segregation and management, strict monitoring, and the implementation of municipal and barangay ordinances.

The most popular program is the conduct of yearly competitions in collaboration with schools, households, and barangay local government units, wherein winners are given monetary incentives.

These are the Search for Healthy Barangay, Search for Junior Hulk Academy, Search for Green Hand Innovation and Search for Healthy Household.
