Lal-lo, Cagayan – A woman died after she fell off a jeep roof while the vehicle was traversing the Magapit, Lal-lo highway in Cagayan on Sunday, May 19.
Police said the jeep came from Gonzaga and was traveling back to Amulung West following a family outing.
The casualty and her husband, along with some other passengers, chose to ride on top of the jeep despite the vacancy in the vehicle’s passenger seats, police clarified.
The husband and wife were identified as Mario Quizzagan and Divina Quizzagan.
When the jeep was about to pass by the curved portion of the Superhighway in Magapit, it was then that the incident transpired. The woman was the first one to lose her balance and when her husband tried to help her, they fell off the jeepney roof.
The driver did not even notice at first what happened until he was informed by his passengers.
They were promptly ferried to a medical facility, but the woman was declared dead on arrival due to brain injury. Her husband, who sustained injuries, is now recuperating at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC).
Following an inquest proceeding, the jeepney driver now faces Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide.
He is named by police as Jonathan Cabaro, 28.
