44,666 families affected by flooding in Cagayan

Cagayan, Philippines – In a situational report evening of November 14, 2020 provided by the PDRRMO Cagayan thru Provincial Information Officer Rogelio Sending, 44,666 families or 178,999 individuals from 295 barangays were recorded having suffered flooding in the whole region of Cagayan.


The Municipality of Baggao was worst hit by the flooding affecting 12,202 families or 90,156, submerging 19 barangays of the 48 total number of barangays there. This is 25.71 percent of the total families affected and 50.36 percent of all individuals recorded.


Other areas which incurred high flooding incidence include Enrile with 7,642 families; Aparri with 5,351 families; Alcala 4,477; Sto. Niño 3,167; Lallo 2,067; Cammalanuigan 2,058; Tuguegarao City, 1,403; and Penablañca 1,080.


Yesterday, Cagayan was declared under state of calamity affecting the City of Tugueguerao and 22 municipalities in the province.


In Resolution No. 2020-10-768 of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cagayan, it stated that the declaration is needed in order to start with the rehabilitation process and the repair of public facilities and public infrastracture damaged and destroyed by Moonson rains as well as to extend help to all affected individuals and families.


It further told that the action taken by the Provincial Government is imperative to address the sufferings of those who were affected and help them recover from the material loss as well as moral degradation caused by the monsoon rains.


In an interview on Super radyo DZBB with Provincial Governor Manuel Mamba, he told that flooding was the worst in the province’s history. According to him, the province experiences flooding almost every year but this time, the flooding is “unusual”.


In another interview with DZRH, he informed that rescue and relief operations is still continuously done by the PDRRMO and the City DRRRM office.


He further shared that they are now waiting for air assets which will be provided by the National Government particularly the Armed forces of the Philippines.


Mamba is then asking the public to not to take actions which will risk their lives while help is underway.


“Ang pakiusap ko lang po sa ating lahat, do not take extra risk po dahil ang tulong dadating po at ang ating pag-aari kahit pa wala yan mababawi natin yan, yung buhay po hindi n anatin mababawi pag yan ang nawala,” Mamba told.


Cagayan PIO reported yesterday at 2 pm that total number of evacuees in the province already reached over 37,000. At 3 PM of November 14, PIO Cagayan shared that 4 rescue helicopters of the 505th Search and Rescue Group of the Philippine Air Force already arrived to assist in rescue operations being done.
