Various groups in Tinglayan receive training on first aid from PRC-Kalinga

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Various sectors in Barangay Poblacion, Tinglayan were trained on emergency first aid on Thursday, November 11, 2021, through the Philippine Red Cross, with the goal of increasing the number of volunteer emergency respondents in the locality.

Elders, youth, parents, barangay officials, barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutritionist scholars (BNS), barangay officials were invited to attend said training considering its importance to preserve life, prevent further harm and complication, and provide reassurance to those individuals in need.

During the activity, participants were given hands-on training on how to respond to emergency cases like cardiac arrests, foreign-body airway obstruction (choking), burns, wounds, and fractures.

Aside from these, techniques on proper lifting and moving patients, and earthquake drills, were also imparted to the participants.

Having gained knowledge and skills on first aid, the participants expressed gratitude to the trainers from Philippine Red Cross and the barangay officials. With the said training, they have understood the relevance of “first aid” in immediately responding to individuals who suffer from injuries and illnesses that they may encounter at their homes and in their workplaces.

"It is really helpful because you never know what may happen in the future. Now when we encounter any emergency, we know what to do," said one of the participants.

“We often go to the fields and we may encounter accidents so it is helpful to know these things,” another participant added.

The Tinglayan Municipal Information Office reports that the training is a concerted effort of Poblacion BLGU, funded through their 5% calamity fund and the Philippine Red Cross to equip the public with adequate first aid knowledge necessary in dealing with emergency cases.
