Tabuk City, Kalinga – Every barangay in Kalinga is set to receive P200,000 under the national government's Bawat Barangay Makinabang (BBM) Program, with the funding intended to provide scholarship assistance to college students and support priority development projects in their respective communities.
Governor James S. Edduba announced the program during the Provincial Government of Kalinga's flag-raising ceremony on Monday, July 13, at the Kalinga Sports Complex.
According to Edduba, the funds are expected to be released to the Provincial Government of Kalinga in the coming days, after which the province will facilitate the distribution of the assistance to all barangays.
"I-advance tayo nga i-announce daytoy BBM (Bawat Barangay Makinabang), nga ti ammok nga ikasta da ket ited da iti province, and ti province ti mang-i-award iti P200,000 per barangay," Edduba shared during the ceremony.
Half of the fund for scholars, half for barangay priorities
The governor explained that P100,000 from each barangay's allocation will be earmarked for scholarship assistance. The amount will be distributed to five qualified fourth-year college students, with each beneficiary receiving P20,000 to help them complete their studies.
Based on the program's implementing guidelines, the scholarship is intended for financially vulnerable fourth-year college students who are at risk of not completing their education due to financial constraints. Priority will also be given to students from families where no member has yet earned a college degree.
The Barangay Council, through its Committee on Education, will be responsible for identifying the five qualified scholars based on the eligibility requirements provided under the program.
Meanwhile, the remaining P100,000 will be allocated to priority projects identified by each Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) to address the needs of their respective communities.
"Ket diay P100,000, para kadagijay scholars, lima nga fourth-year college students nga tag P20,000. Then diay other P100,000, nu adino papanan, dagitoy ti expected," Edduba added.
The governor said the turnover of funds is expected to take place on July 16, although the schedule remains subject to confirmation.
Once the funds are released, the Provincial Government of Kalinga will coordinate with the barangays to facilitate the distribution of scholarship assistance and the implementation of the barangays' priority projects under the Bawat Barangay Makinabang (BBM) Program.
