Tinglayan’s 101-year-old national centenarian awardee attributes longevity to divine gift

Tinglayan, Kalinga – One question that comes to mind when we hear about centenarians is their secret to longevity.

In Tulgao East Tinglayan, a 101-year-old grandpa was recently honored with a cash incentive amounting to P110,000 to acknowledge his invaluable contributions to the community.

Of said amount, P100,000 came from the national government, while the remaining P10,000 was from the fund of the local government unit of Tinglayan through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

In said awarding, he was asked by social welfare workers what his secret is on how he achieved said age. However, he did not answer and instead told them that his age is a gift from God.

In an interview with locals, their diet depends on agriculture produce being grown in the area. These include cabbages, watercress, chayote and beans, among others. Hiking also serves as their exercise, given the topography of the area.

Meantime, Angeline Ando of MSWDO relayed that the centenarian - Mauricio Paloc, at his age, is still weaving soft brooms. He may not be able to walk for some kilometers already but he could still move around their community in Tulgao East.

In a statement, the local government unit, headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, said the grant given to the elderly manifests appreciation not only by the municipality but also by the country for his longevity and contributions.

“His achievement is not only a testament to his resilience but also a demonstration of the importance of holistic health and care throughout life,” they wrote.
