20-yr.-old rider in Tabuk City crashes into police officer manning checkpoint

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A police officer in Tabuk City was hit by a rider who refused to stop at a checkpoint on Monday afternoon, March 18.

On said date, the Tabuk City police personnel were manning a checkpoint along the Provincial Road in San Juan for their ‘Oplan Sita’ operation.

Based on the information relayed by PNP Tabuk Spokesperson, PMSg. Prodencio Atas to GURU Press Cordillera, the police tried to stop the motorcycle heading to Bulanao as the rider was not wearing a helmet.

However, the vehicle being driven by a certain Sonny Linggayo Javier, 20, allegedly did not obey and was described to have continued speeding. This was when PEMS Melvin Hortelano tried to flag him down again before he could pass through the checkpoint, but the police officer was directly hit by the motorcycle.

The impact of collision sent Hortelano and the 20-year-old rider injured on the ground. They were rushed to the hospital where the cop sustained wound on his leg and a head injury; while Javier sustained abrasion and wounds on his knee, hand, elbow, and back.

Both are said to be recuperating at the hospital.
