BAGGAO, Cagayan — A garage was reduced to ashes after a fire broke out despite the heavy rains and strong winds brought by Tropical Storm Kiyapo in Zone 3, Barangay Sta. Margarita, Baggao, on Friday, July 24.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, but the blaze left the structure heavily damaged.

According to information released by the Baggao Information Office, the fire started at around 11:20 a.m., while the municipality was experiencing inclement weather caused by the tropical storm.

Residents immediately sought assistance, prompting local emergency responders to rush to the scene. They arrived at around 11:59 a.m. and found the garage already engulfed in thick smoke and flames.

To prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses, responders immediately launched a direct water attack while waiting for personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Upon arrival, BFP firefighters took over the firefighting operations and successfully contained the blaze. The fire was declared under control and extinguished at 12:10 p.m.

Authorities said the fire was confined to the garage, preventing it from spreading to nearby residential houses despite the strong winds brought by the storm.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still investigating the cause of the fire and has yet to determine the total value of the damage to the affected property.
